2009 Annual Awards

Tell Us Why Your Dog Is Special

At the 2009 WGSDCA National Show, we will be presenting awards to some special dogs. It is time to nominate dogs for these awards. We hope each of you will participate in nominating dogs for the categories that are listed. We are sure there are some worthy dogs out there that may be going unnoticed that should be getting an award for all that they do. We also have a special essay contest for children. Nominations must be returned to the Committee Chairperson by June 25. The committee will review each entry for inclusion in the proper category. The entire membership will vote on the winners. Ballots will be included with the July newsletter and will be due back July 31. Winners will be announced at the National Show Awards Banquet. Time is short so send in your nominations.

WGSDCA Futurity and Maturity

The WGSDCA's purpose is to protect and advance the German Shepherd Dog with a white coat color. In order for the club to show advancement in the breed, it is necessary to have "mile markers" to show how far we have come in our breeding programs. An annual futurity and maturity are held to help us gage our success.

2009 Futurity
The purpose of the futurity is to showcase the young, up-and-coming dogs in the breed. In order to compete in a futurity, the dog's litter must be nominated by the breeder of record. The breeder must be a member of the WGSDCA or may apply for membership at the time of nomination. Dogs competing in the futurity must be intact (not spayed/neutered) and will be anywhere from 6 months to 18 months of age and will be broken out into four separate classes (divided by sex).

  • Junior (6-9 months)
  • Teenage (9-12 months)
  • Intermediate (12-15 months)
  • Senior (15-18 months)

The futurity will be held at the 2009 national show on October 9, 2009. Prizes will be awarded to Best Male, Reserve Best Male, Best Female, Reserve Best Female, Best in Futurity and Best Opposite Sex in Futurity.

For the 2009 futurity, litters whelped March 2, 2008 - April 9, 2009 are eligible. The deadline for litter nomination is August 1, 2009. The fee for nomination is $25 per litter and is open to white German Shepherd Dogs only (may have "colored" parents). To enter a litter in the 2009 futurity, use the WGSDCA Futurity Entry form.

2009 Maturity
In order for a dog to enter the maturity, its litter must have been nominated in the year prior's futurity. The main point of the maturity is to see how the dogs have matured from the futurity judging. Owners of the dog must be a WGSDCA member or apply for membership in order to participate. There will be a $15 entry fee that can be paid by the owner or breeder of record. Dogs competing in the Maturity must be intact (not spayed or neutered). There are two classes for each sex. For the Maturity held at the 2009 National, the age classifications are as follows:

  • Junior (18-25 months)
  • Senior (26-32 months)

The maturity will be held at the 2009 national show on October 9, 2009. Prizes will be awarded to Best Male, Best Female, Reserve Best Male, Reserve Best Female, Best in Maturity and Best Opposite Sex in Maturity. Entry forms will be sent to the breeders who had litters competing in last year's Futurity so the dogs can be entered in this year's maturity.

The following litters are eligible for the 2009 Maturity (these litters were nominated for the 2008 Futurity):

  • Ch. BOF Eclipse's Big Money x BIF Eclipse's The Way Out - Whelped 11-27-2007
